Mothers’ Day

Hi!

Since when did we all (well me at least) become so self-absorbed, nonchalant and too busy with our everyday lives to remember the one day set aside to recognise the real goddesses of this world. That’s right, it’s like our, for lack of a better word, mothers, stepped right off the pages of a modern history textbook about Ancient Egyptian myths and into our lives like an Aztec God answering prayers for rain during a drought. Yep, there’s a reason for all this over-descriptive talk. I’m procrastinating, you see, because what I’m really trying to tell you is just so terrible that it makes me feel all torn up inside with guilt. But, the fact that I completely forgot about Mothers’ Day this year (and, let’s face it, probably the 4 years prior to this one) isn’t that bad is it? I still have 4 days to prepare… Better get cracking!! Tick tock, tick tock.

For those of you, much like me, this blog is devoted to our great Mums and what you can do with them this Sunday for Mothers’ Day!

Your best bet is definitely to take your Mum to ‘A La Carte In The Park’ from 10am til 4pm at Lionel Perry Park. There’ll be awesome food and some great jazz music to accompany so why not bring the whole family and a picnic blanket to enjoy what is sure to be a wonderful day. Check out http://www.surfersparadisefestival.com/thisweek/detail.php?id=30 for more details..

I will surely be there with my Mum. I think this will be better than any pyjamas, facial vouchers or breakfast in bed… I’m just praying that the weather will be better than it has been today.

Dear Aztec rain gods, please lose the downpour!!!

Yours Truly,

Soph @ Surfers

Good Times Are A-Coming…

Hey all you Surfers groovers and movers!

The countdown is on for the Surfers Paradise Festival which kicks off this Sunday with Launch It just South of Cavill Mall. Yves Klein Blue, Bertie Blackman and You Am I will all be there, so get your boogie boots on down there from 1pm to party like a rockstar!

And Launch It is just the beginning, with Lisa Mitchell appearing to put a coin in your laundry (Coin Laundry is the name of her most popular song for all those who haven’t kept up) on May 5 at a Beergarden performance. I don’t know about you guys, but I am just far too excited!

Now, for those of you who have religiously checked out the Surfers Paradise Festival website (http://surfersparadisefestival.com) and have been wondering what the heck “fringe” is, here is a a little definition for all you non-arty-farties…

Fringe (n.) : unofficial; not conventional in form.

So, the part of the website devoted to “The Fringe” events, is all those eclectic performances coming somewhat from left-field. You can call them alternative, contemporary or eccentric, but they are sure to hit you with the wow-factor and will be happening all throughout May and June. Definitely not to be missed, Fringe events are by far my favourite. I can’t wait to hear your responses from those of you who hit them up!!!

I know, billboards, posters and bus adverts for the SP Festival have shot up all around town recently, so none of you have got ANY excuse to miss it!!!

What else has been going on around Surfers in the past week? Come on, fill me in, give me some feedback, ask me some questions! That’s what I’m here for…

See you all on Sunday at Launch It

Let’s Get Acquainted!

Hey Gold Coast,

It’s me, the Surfers Paradise blogger here with your first blog. It’s just a little bit of an introduction. Let’s get acquainted!

I’m a local, and have been on the Gold Coast my whole life. Here, where the coasts are golden, is where all the magic happens and Surfers Paradise is my playground. It’s yours too!

There’s always so much going on around town and I’ll be filling you in on what’s happening so you can enjoy Surfers at its best.

You can use this blog to ask me questions – anything you like – and talk about who and what you saw out on the town… You might have seen a weird-looking guy wandering through Cavill Avenue or just want to know where in Surfers you can get the best kebab; This is where you’ll find all the answers!

Start up a conversation with me, comment on my blogs, come and sing/dance/eat/party the night away with me at all the Surfers Paradise events and you’ll be sure to have a rocking time!

Anyway, so how amazing was the weather here today? Who made the most of it and went and did something fun? (i.e. surfing, water skiing etc..) I worked inside all day much to my disappointment…

Who’s going out tonight? Where are we headed? Word about town is that there will be a few extremely happy and satisfied Bond Uni students out in Surfers tonight celebrating their end of semester. It’s guaranteed they’ll be partying hard… I bet you’ll find them at either Ruby Tramp, Bedroom or Shooters. Anyone beg to differ? Let me know tomorrow what’s goss…

Surfers Paradise Festival – come one, come all…

Are you ready?! It’s starting on Sunday, May 2 with Launch It and I am so so excited for it!! WHO’S COMING??

If you live in Surfers, or close by, and you’re wondering where all the cool beats are coming from next Sunday, it will undoubtedly be from Cavill Avenue. There’s some great music acts like You Am I, Bertie Blackman and Yves Klein Blue PLUS beach fireworks. What’s even better is, it’s all freeeeeeeeeee!

If you love your live music or just want to boogie with a cool crowd, come along and let’s pump up the volume! What an awesome way to start the Surfers Paradise Festival. If you’re there, see if you can spot me in the crowd…. :)

Check out http://www.surfersparadisefestival.com/thisweek/detail.php?id=29 for more info and make sure you add Surfers Paradise on Facebook!

Keep your eyes peeled for my next blog, coming to a computer screen near you! I will have any new goss I  hear/see over the weekend and more info on the upcoming Surfers Paradise Festival events. Oh, this is going to be the most fun!

Yours Truly,

Soph @ Surfers
