What’s #YourStory? Like in fairy tales each story is unique, some may convey great hardship and the ultimate triumph, while others are still looking for their ending. Register to be a part of something great, Sand Talk. We invite you to stand together as a community as we spark conversation around the importance of mental health and well-being.
Mental illness affects those from all walks of life and at any time - it could affect a loved one, a friend, a colleague or neighbour - it may even happen to you. It’s important that we as a community take notice, listen and recognise the signs of someone who may be going through a difficult time.
For the first nine days of the festival, Sand Talk – Art of Conversation, will see a large container art installation showcased on the Surfers Paradise beachfront. Pristine white in colour, with its doors closed, you are encouraged to write and place #YourStory to share messages of hope and inspiration on the container. From what started as a blank canvas, will gradually become a heartening art piece with notes shared from all backgrounds.
On Sunday 23 February, Sand Talk will come alive on the sands of Surfers Paradise beach - a day of opportunity to embrace community stories of strength, inspiration and support. The doors of Sand Talk – The Art of Conversation will open with its countless messages of hope, will inspire visitors to write messages of wisdom on the day. The highlight of the event will include an immersive Human Art experience on the sands of Surfers Paradise beach. With a drone flying high, the community will come together to form a giant speech bubble in support for everyone to share #YourStory in a safe and welcoming environment.
A celebration zone will give the opportunity to embrace the dimensions of diversity and promote activities that enhance mental, physical and social well-being as well as providing information on community support groups available within the South East Queensland region. A free barbecue, laughter tent, art therapy workshops and, other goodies will be on offer for registered participants.
Whatever #YourStory may be, Gold Coast – we are listening.
